State of Yo | 2007 | dir. Jason Karman | Length: 7:56
Fascinating documentary of Harvey Lowe, pictured in the final image, the first World Yo-Yo Champion. An insightful look into his 89 years and how a hobby can involve itself deeply in one’s life on many different levels. For Lowe it was first as a game, a career, then a meditation method and finally a memory jogger after brain surgery.

Meat and Bread.

It’s basically what you get at this Vancouver lunch spot. But minimalism means quality at Meat and Bread (370 Cambie St).
Only open at lunch but serves up some crazy good sandwiches with simple side soup and salad. They only have one or two sandwiches available therefore not catering to the picky eater but the tasty condiments are worth the limitations. So good they are that you can buy them in shop as well.
It’s very rustic in style with long communal benches and wood slabs as plates. They also make your meal right at the front counter with fast service and hip cooks. It’s good fast food you need to try.

Sarah Polley masterpost

Away From Her | 2006
This final image is actually one of the first images we see in the film. It seems to embody the final scene, when Fiona’s memory comes back and the woman Grant loves and sacrificed for, the same woman in the start of the film has returned, just for an instant, revealing he is not totally lost to her.

Take This Waltz | 2011
In this final image it is not the first time we’ve seen the setting yet this round, Margot rides alone. But with a smile on her face,  she is loosing herself in the moment, when decisions and responsibility are lost. It seems to give her a rare opportunity for solitude, when her only care need be for herself.

Stories We Tell | 2012
This final image is Polley’s interview with Geoff, a man many people thought (incorrectly) to be her biological father. He seems to embody Polley’s goal for this film; exposing how everyone’s stories of similar events are always different, remembered and retold to make sense to our subjective selves.
